How to install Apple Podcasts on Android

· By James Cridland · 1.3 minutes to read

You can now install Apple Podcasts - one of the most popular ways of listening to podcasts - on your Android phone.

Apple Podcasts isn’t in the Google Play store. Instead, you need to install it a slightly different way.

Installation

  • Open Google Chrome
  • Visit podcasts.apple.com
  • Press ⫶ (the Chrome menu) and choose “Add to Home Screen”
  • And finally, confirm that in the window that appears.

You’ll now have Apple Podcasts installed on your Android phone, just like a normal app.

To get the most out of it, log in to your Apple ID. That will sync your Apple account, and save your play progress and access the shows you follow.

You’ll also be able to purchase premium podcast subscriptions, see your library and top charts, and everything else you’d want to do.

And, if you speak a language other than English, you’ll find Apple Podcasts should be in your local language, too.

Even though it looks just like the iOS app, Apple Podcasts on Android is actually a website; so you’ll need data to start listening to your favourite show. It doesn’t offer downloads. But, it otherwise works identically - supporting the notification, controllable from your watch, and of course plays with the screen off and locked like a real podcast app.

Transcripts aren’t available on the web version; and for now you’ll see the web address at the top of the page to remind you that you’re in a browser, though we suspect that’ll be removed in a future update.

You can install the Podnews app in the same way, incidentally. That’ll give you an app with the latest podcast news.
