- May 27: Acast CEO Greg Glenday published the text of his speech at The Podcast Show. "Free speech is under genuine pressure, particularly in my country," he said, noting the consolidation that occurred in radio in the late 1990s. "Today, five billionaires - not companies, five individual men - control 90% of media in the United States. That's a scary number. And we can see what that looks like in practice. ... The people in this industry - creators, platforms, producers, everyone building in this space - have an opportunity to protect something that matters well beyond the commercial case for podcasting. I think we should take that seriously."
- May 25: Podnews reader James enjoyed a free coffee thanks to Acast from a coffee shop outside The Podcast Show's venue in London.
- May 19: FREE COFFEE - the first 50 people to wave their Podcast Show badge or registration email at Noxy Brothers, the indie coffee shop right next door to the Business Design Centre, gets a free coffee. It's all thanks to Acast, who have used some form of pun about fuelling podcasting in their email.
- May 15: The company also announced live partners for Spotify Video Distribution (which allows your podcast host to directly upload video for you into Spotify). Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace are all live with the feature today. Spotify Video Distribution was announced in January; Acast and Omny Studio were both highlighted as launch partners then, but aren't yet live. Spotify is now explicit in the FAQ that if you change your mind, you can transition your show back to an audio-only RSS feed - but the company warns you, you'll lose all video uploads.
- May 13: Acast claims its the first to monetise Apple Podcasts' HLS video, signing campaigns with State Farm and T-Mobile. The company says that 117 shows have already enabled Acast’s Apple HLS integration, with over 1,000 video episodes published to date (on Acast, access to video is currently invite-only). HLS video with Apple Podcasts, like with Amazon Music, remains hosted by podcast hosts like Acast.
