- Jun 19: Rebel Audio, a new AI-powered podcast platform, launched in March, has moved into public beta. The platform promises AI powered translation, clipping and repurposing, and direct publishing to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and other platforms in one click. The company has launched a podcast to put the platform's capabilities on display.
- Jun 18: Unlike competing AI podcast company Inception Point AI, Fastcast episodes always acknowledge that they are AI generated: compliant with Apple Podcasts content guidelines. In an interview on the Podcast Advertising Playbook podcast, we learn that Inception Point AI have decided not to make an acknowledgement in audio for shorter shows.
- Jun 17: The data shows that YouTube is the most-used podcast platform in the country; with Apple Podcasts the #1 RSS-based podcast app - 49% of all new episode downloads went to Apple. The iHeartRadio app (operated by Bell Media in the country) accounts for 3%. The report includes demographics for each player - with Apple Podcasts users, predictably, being twice as likely to earn over $100,000 than YouTube users.
- Jun 15: In news that will please Apple: 27% of video podcast consumers say they consumed a video podcast on Apple Podcasts in the past month. The fieldwork for this study was done April 12-28: starting less than three weeks after the feature publicly launched. That figure is 37% for Netflix, 47% for Spotify, and 89% for YouTube.
- Jun 12: Apple Podcasts, which is not involved in AMP, defines a play in Apple Podcasts Connect as "the number of plays on unique devices where the play duration is greater than 0 seconds" - and isn't limited to one per user. In practice, a "play" appears to measure every touch of the play button (even, one suspects, after pauses for turn-by-turn instructions while driving). As one example, in May, the Podnews Weekly Review podcast saw 2,093 downloads to Apple Podcasts, but 3,200 "plays".
