- Apr 22: Podcast app and hosting service Fountain is hosting a night of live music at famous East-End music pub The Old Blue Last in London on April 30. The event starts with a panel session discussing open music hosted on RSS, and how artists get paid; and then, an eclectic line-up of rising UK artists, all streaming live on Fountain.
- Apr 16: Fountain writes: "The Honest Truth About Podcast Monetization (And Why Most Advice Is Wrong)". By the way, if you listen to Podnews (or the Podnews Weekly Review) using the Fountain app, you can send us messages and support us directly.
- Feb 9:
The method used by some podcast apps (notably Fountain, Castamatic and Podcast Guru) for listeners to give money to podcast hosts while they listen, sometimes known as "streaming sats", has been changing - no more incomprehensible "node addresses", now a simple payment address that looks like an email address. Look for the
podcast:valuetag in our RSS for an example. Strike is a (free) bank account for Bitcoin; and today, Podnews launches Runway, a free tool for Strike users, in beta, to help you know who paid you - and let you read their messages. (We needed one anyway, so we thought it would be nice if it worked for everyone). - Feb 2: Castamatic is now supporting the BoostBox API specification (here's an example). The Boostbox API specification allows information like boost messages and sender names to be added to payments made for streaming sats or boosts. It joins Fountain which supports it (and Podcast Guru, which has something similar, but isn't following the spec).
- Jan 27: Podcast app and host Fountain has launched Fountain for Artists, a specific music hosting service, using RSS. Music artists earn revenue every time a song is played, using Bitcoin. The tool uses the same functionality as Podcasting 2.0's "streaming sats".
