- Feb 25: Goalhanger has launched a new live event - its first without a podcast. The Rest Is Assassinations will feature Dominic Sandbrook and Anthony Scaramucci at the end of March in London’s Theatre Royal in Drury Lane.
- Feb 21: Edison Research released the Top 25 Podcasts in the UK for Q4/2024. News podcasts did well this quarter, which included the US Presidential Election. The BBC has the most titles in the list overall, though Goalhanger Podcasts has three shows in the top 5.
- Jan 9: Goalhanger is to turn The Rest Is History into TV and film formats, according to Bloomberg. The show claims 12.5mn downloads a week (the article suggests This American Life “only” does 11.5mn).
- Dec 20, 2024: That Goalhanger ad we covered earlier in the week has got a lot of attention. One UK correspondent with a good memory has remembered this similar ad for BBC Sounds from October 2018. (The lack of now-playing thumbnails in the BBC Sounds one, in our view, makes it less obvious what’s going on).
- Dec 17, 2024: The UK’s Goalhanger has launched its first multichannel ad campaign, in partnership with Spotify. The video ads, which will be shown across social media, show Spotify users switching between individual podcasts (though the “p” word isn’t used) - is it the best ad for a podcast company yet?
