- Dec 20: That Goalhanger ad we covered earlier in the week has got a lot of attention. One UK correspondent with a good memory has remembered this similar ad for BBC Sounds from October 2018. (The lack of now-playing thumbnails in the BBC Sounds one, in our view, makes it less obvious what’s going on).
- Dec 17: The UK’s Goalhanger has launched its first multichannel ad campaign, in partnership with Spotify. The video ads, which will be shown across social media, show Spotify users switching between individual podcasts (though the “p” word isn’t used) - is it the best ad for a podcast company yet? You can watch it here.
- Dec 6: The new Goalhanger podcast The Rest Is Classified has achieved 200,000 downloads in its first week, the company says. It topped the charts in the UK and Australia, while also breaking into the top 5 in New Zealand and Ireland. The show offers unparalleled insights into the world of intelligence and security.
- Nov 27: Edison Research published the top 25 UK Podcasts for Q3/24. Goalhanger celebrate improvements in placing for all of its four top-25 shows, including The Rest is Politics, which makes it to #2 in the country, behind the US-made Joe Rogan Experience. There are only two shows from the US in the chart. Acast hosts nine shows, Megaphone hosts seven, and the BBC hosts five.
- Nov 25: BBC Sounds, the broadcaster’s proprietary radio, music and podcast app, has signed a licensing deal with Goalhanger to carry two of its podcasts. The shows will be ad-free, and time-delayed - The Rest is Football (“quality analysis and insight on all the latest stories from the world of football”) will be delayed by two days, while The Rest is History (“a vast range of historical topics”) will be delayed by eight weeks. The shows will continue to be available elsewhere.
