- Jul 10: A clarification on our story about The Podcast Exchange (TPX), which we reported was “to file for bankruptcy”. We’re not alone in using this phrase to describe, in short-hand, the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection process (or, in this case, the equivalent in Canada), and we reproduced the email in full explaining this. But for clarity - just like Kast Media or Audacy did, TPX continues to operate under supervision, while it submits plans to restructure. We’ve covered TPX since it launched in Feb 2018, and we wish them the best.
- Jun 3: As we suggested last week, podcast studio Kast Media has announced it has emerged from Chapter 11 restructuring with “overwhelming support” of its creditors. As Podnews covered, the company continued to trade through the process, which founder Colin Thomson says was “heavily scrutinized”. Thomson has become Chief Creative Officer; Kast Media’s new CEO will be Matty Staudt who joins from iHeart, Stitcher, and Jam Street Media.
- May 29: We may have an end to Kast Media’s bankruptcy proceedings, which we’ve been covering for over a year. The company’s plan to emerge from bankruptcy was confirmed by a court yesterday.
- Apr 8: Kast Media, still in bankruptcy, released its monthly operating report for March. The company made $25,211 in ad sales; and a further $5,130 in premium paid subscriptions.
- Mar 24: In the court papers as part of its bankruptcy proceedings, podcast network Kast Media has posted its operating accounts for February 2025. The company earnt $5,100 from Apple Podcasts for paid subscriptions; and $11,400 from advertising. It’s a helpful look into how well the Apple Podcasts paid subscription feature is doing for this one publisher; we’d love to hear how it’s doing overall for everyone.
