- Jul 23: Edith Chapin is to leave NPR. She is Senior Vice President and Editor in Chief. Chapin also currently acts as Chief Content Officer, overseeing reporting, radio shows and podcasts. The resignation comes days after Congress voted to strip public media of federal funding, but it’s reported she made the decision two weeks ago.
- Jul 22: Charlotte’s NPR station WFAE has announced six layoffs. Meanwhile, South Dakota Public Broadcasting plans to reduce staff by up to 25%. The job losses are due to the upcoming cut in government funding for CPB.
- Jul 18: Bobby Carter from NPR spoke at Radiodays Europe earlier this year about the success of the Tiny Desk Concert. Radiodays has uploaded a number of the talks from the event, which happened in March.
- Jul 17: On Sep 3, the BBC is to launch an international podcast called The Global Story, a breathless release tells us. Regular readers will remember us covering, um, the launch of a new BBC international podcast called The Global Story in November 2023. That version appears to have quietly fizzled out in March of this year. The new version will be more US-focused, and includes former staff from NPR and the New York Times.
- Jul 9: NPR has recently added support for the funding tag across its shows - it’s a Podcasting 2.0 feature in RSS that enables a link to help directly support a show. Supporting Cast notes in a blog today that use of the feature continues to grow, now it’s supported by apps like Pocket Casts, Podcast Addict and AntennaPod.
