Latest news
- Aug 4: Shows using Riverside hosting include Go Get It with Rob Butler, Next Phase Podcast, Ctrl Alt Podcast, Podcasters of America, These Can’t Be My Kids, and Auch bei New Work wird geweint. It's growing fast, though - by Saturday at 22:00 UTC, there were 82 shows in the Podcast Index (all of which were also in Apple Podcasts). It's likely there are many more.
- Jul 16: Podnews checked against similar, historical, data from the Podcast Index. In Dec 2024, the number of shows that were “active” in 2024 (i.e. published their LATEST episode in that year) was 732,209. Calculate that today, and you’d see that same 2024 number shrink to 351,464 - because many of them have since posted an episode in 2025.
- Jul 11: Podcast Movement announced the first set of confirmed sessions for the event in Dallas next month. And - Podnews can add news of one more speaker: none other than the “podfather”, Adam Curry, who is returning to Podcast Movement thanks to SoundStack. The co-inventor of podcasting, the Podcast Index and Podcasting 2.0 will be on the company’s stage on August 19th.
- Jun 5: Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, which was removed from Spotify after he called for Dr Anthony Fauci’s beheading, is back on the platform after an almost five year ban. The show had remained on Apple Podcasts and the Podcast Index. It self-hosts. (Apple is now able to remove specific episodes from its directory; it wasn’t in 2020).
- Apr 15: Aaron McQuade writes: “PWAs dont get enough love, so I created a little web app for installing any podcast as an app on your phone.” The code is open source and uses Podcast Index.
