- Nov 7: Yesterday, we covered, in good faith, a story from The Verge (archived) about the launch of the RØDECaster Video S, a smaller video mixer. Six hours after publication, RØDE’s European marketing team asked us to sign a dense four-page Non Disclosure Agreement, in preparation for “a major upcoming release”. It was a trap: we discover the major release is the RØDECaster Video S, so had we signed the NDA... yikes! (We always respect embargoes, if we know about them.)
- Sep 30: This International Podcast Day, support an indie podcaster near you: finalists in the Business and the People’s Choice categories in the 2025 Signal Awards include massive shows from Bloomberg, The Verge, Wondery etc, and independent Canadian show The Business Development Podcast - who are currently in second place, behind Morning Brew. - Nov 1, 2024: Zöe Schiffer is joining WIRED as Director, Business & Industry, and is the co-host of WIRED’s new flagship podcast, Uncanny Valley. She joins from The Verge and Platformer, and officially starts in WIRED’s West Coast offices in January.
- Apr 9, 2024: The Verge says that companies like OpenAI are transcribing podcasts as data to train artificial intelligence programs.
- Apr 3, 2024: Google Podcasts is now said to have closed in the US (it’s still available in every other country, with no closure date yet). David Pearce from The Verge writes an excoriating article criticising Google. “The podcast app is only the latest good Google thing to die. And if Google ever wants us to buy into its promises again, this has to stop.”
