- Oct 22: Just in time for Christmas, Zoom (the audio equipment manufacturer) is to launch the Zoom PodTrak P4next, a portable XLR multitrack recorder with “AI noise reduction”, compression and tone shaping. Here’s a demo video. It’s marked as “coming soon” on B&H for $179.99. We’ve not had a press release for it, but it appears to have been announced yesterday.
- Oct 15: Writing in Vulture, Nick Quah suggests it’s “a kind of mutual defense pact” against YouTube. Writing in /r/billsimmons, fans call this “lame”, “stupid”, and “dumb”; however some point out that the low production values of these shows (many of which are simply recorded Zoom calls) will look negatively different to others on Netflix.
- Mar 13: Leave the laptop at home - Zoom has released the PodTrak P2, a portable recorder for USB microphones. The product includes background noise reduction, and contains a built-in dynamic compressor. The $99 unit can record up to four simultaneous tracks to an SD card.
