FREELANCE EDITORIAL PRODUCER AND INTERVIEW WRITER For Shut Up! Tell Me More, the podcast. United States only please.
Are you the person who falls down a three hour internet rabbit hole because one tiny detail in an interview did not add up?
Do you know which celebrity stories have been told 400 times and immediately wonder what nobody has ever thought to ask?
Do you love Bravo, pop culture, wildly interesting people, complicated backstories, messy life decisions, unexpected reinventions and those “WAIT…WHAT?!” moments that make an interview impossible to turn off?
If so, I may be looking for you!
ABOUT THE SHOW
Shut Up! Tell Me More is a weekly video and audio interview podcast hosted by Pam Comiter and available on YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
Our guests include reality television personalities, celebrities, fascinating experts and wildly interesting people with unbelievable real life stories.
The whole point of the show is to get past the polished talking points and uncover what actually happened. We want the funny details, the uncomfortable truths, the stories nobody has heard and the questions everyone is thinking but may be too afraid to ask.
Pam’s interview style is curious, conversational, direct, funny and emotionally honest. This is not a stiff, formal interview show. We want the listener to feel like they are sitting with us, completely invested and occasionally yelling, “SHUT UP! Tell me more!”
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a freelance editorial producer and interview writer who is deeply curious, completely obsessed with a good story and genuinely fluent in pop culture.
This is not primarily a technical production or audio editing position. It is a creative editorial role for someone who loves researching people, connecting dots, discovering hidden angles and writing questions that lead to surprising, candid conversations.
We do not need someone to simply Google a guest and summarize their Wikipedia page. We need someone who will watch the old interviews, notice the tiny detail everyone else ignored and say, “Wait, why has nobody asked about THIS?”
WHAT YOU’LL DO
For each assigned guest, you will:
-
Conduct deep research into the guest’s background, career, current projects and personal story.
-
Watch and listen to the guest’s previous podcast, television and media interviews.
-
Identify the questions they are always asked and, more importantly, what everyone else has missed.
-
Find unexpected stories, contradictions, emotional turning points, funny details and irresistible “Wait, WHAT?” moments.
-
Develop a fresh editorial angle and suggested structure for the interview so our conversation feels different from every other interview the guest has done.
-
Create a concise research brief with important facts, timelines, links, possible sensitivities and areas that need clarification.
-
Write approximately 25 to 35 thoughtful, original interview questions in Pam’s natural voice.
-
Include suggested follow up questions and notes about where Pam should dig deeper.
-
Write a short, engaging introduction for the episode.
-
Watch or listen to the recorded interview and provide editorial notes with time stamps, including anything that should be tightened, removed, rearranged or highlighted.
-
Identify the moments with the strongest potential for social media clips.
-
Suggest compelling episode titles.
-
Write the episode description for YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
WHO YOU MIGHT BE
You may already be a podcast researcher, producer, journalist, writer, story editor or pop culture reporter.
Or you may simply be an unusually talented, incredibly curious pop culture obsessive who has been waiting for someone to turn your internet sleuthing abilities into an actual job.
The right person:
-
Is deeply fluent in pop culture, reality television, Bravo and celebrity media.
-
Understands the cultural references, nostalgia and general sensibility of people who grew up in the ’90s and 2000s.
-
Is equally fascinated by celebrity stories, human behavior, crime, reinvention, relationships, motherhood and completely unbelievable real life experiences.
-
Can tell the difference between basic internet research and a genuinely fresh interview angle.
-
Can learn Pam’s voice and write questions that sound conversational, curious and natural, not robotic, overly formal or generic.
-
Understands that the best follow up question is often more valuable than the next question on the list.
-
Knows how to ask candid questions without being cruel or disrespectful.
-
Understands what makes an interview moment emotional, entertaining and shareable.
-
Is organized, communicative and able to meet deadlines.
-
Has strong opinions, excellent instincts and a sense of humor.
Previous podcast, journalism, television, research or editorial experience is wonderful, but exceptional taste, writing ability, curiosity and creative instincts matter more than a fancy résumé.
THE DETAILS
-
Freelance and remote.
-
Work is assigned and paid per episode.
-
Flexible schedule with firm deadlines based on recording dates.
-
Compensation is $300 per completed episode.
-
The selected candidate will begin with one fully paid trial episode.
-
If the creative fit is strong, there is an opportunity for recurring work on approximately four episodes per month.
-
The host will remain responsible for recording, guest relationships and appearing on camera. This position is focused specifically on making the editorial content as strong, original and compelling as possible.

HOW TO APPLY
Please send the following to pam@shutuptellmemore.com
A brief introduction telling me who you are and why this particular show and role feel like your kind of thing. Links or samples demonstrating your research, writing, interview preparation, podcast or editorial work. The names of three podcasts or interviewers you genuinely love and what you think they do especially well. One example of a celebrity, reality personality or fascinating public figure who has already been interviewed approximately one million times, plus the fresh angle you would pursue with them. Your availability and typical turnaround time.
Please do not send a generic cover letter. I want to hear your actual voice!
Show me your personality, your curiosity, your pop culture brain and the weird little detail you found that nobody else noticed.
If your friends constantly text you to ask what is really happening in pop culture, if you listen to interviews and mentally rewrite all the questions, or if “I went down a rabbit hole…” is one of your most frequently used phrases, I would LOVE to hear from you.
Please mention podnews.net in your application.
