Part-time Video Editor
A part time position
Fully remote: working with a USA-based team at Talking Feds.
About us: Talking Feds is a roundtable and interview podcast that brings together prominent former federal officials, political leaders, journalists, and commentators for dynamic, in-depth analysis of the most pressing questions in law and politics. The show is a forum for vital conversations about how to defend American democracy and the rule of law.
We’re looking for an inventive, efficient, part-time video editor to join our small, fully-remote team.
About the role: The video editor will edit and finalize a video version of our weekly flagship show, the Talking Feds roundtable. You’ll help us launch a video version of the roundtable and edit audio and video for it weekly. In the long-run, there will be room to grow in the role, including by reshaping our video production and visual language.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, a proven ability to work both quickly and carefully, and experience working on news products. You’ll report to a producer and work closely with our staff engineer, as well as the rest of our small team. This is a great opportunity for an engineer with a flexible schedule to contribute to a mission-driven news outlet.
Core responsibilities:
- Produce, edit, and deliver polished audio and video for the roundtable episodes.
- Publish and optimize video across required platforms (YouTube, Spotify, eventually Apple).
- Collaborate with producers, host, and staff engineer.
- Fill in for our staff engineer during planned vacations or other unavailabilities.
Must-Haves:
- Availability on Wednesday afternoons and evenings (ET).
- 2 or more years of video production experience, ideally in news or politics.
- Fluency in Adobe Premiere: ability to handle complex timelines, color correction, and audio syncing.
- Experience editing long-form video podcast interviews or YouTube shows.
- Experience and fluency with multicam editing.
- Proven audio mixing and editing skills: experience in adjusting levels, enhancing quality, and mixing tracks to improve listener experience.
- Experience with remote recording tools such as Riverside and Zoom.
- Experience with Apple Podcasts for Creators, Spotify for Creators, and Megaphone/similar podcast hosting sites.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Fluency in Adobe After Effects and Photoshop: strong preference for applicants with skills in these tools, with proven ability to create custom graphics, animations, and thumbnails.
- Experience with (and portfolio of) graphic design or web design.
- West Coast working hours.
- Weekend availability (a few hours—not full days).
Compensation:
- A per episode fee of $550. For any potential work beyond that weekly edit, we’d want to go case-by-case and discuss an experience-based hourly fee of no less than $30.
