Ad Sales Manager (Freelance / Commission-Based)

The Music Universe, the largest independently circulated music news site with a readership of 40 million, is seeking a freelance ad sales specialist to grow our content revenue streams.

We are excited to welcome people passionate about music, media, and all things entertainment to our team to build a long-lasting relationship! You should be a self-motivated individual who is excited to work, connect, and sell in this space. People come to our site because they love music. Our readers often spend much of their disposable income investing in it through physical album purchases, concert tickets, and experiential travel. You will bring us paid opportunities that align with our site’s content.

TMU’s exclusives, reviews, and often first-to-press news stories are constantly shared by top artists on their social media. We also have the best search engine and Smart News-app visibility of any independent music news publication.

The vertices on our site include written articles, video content, and social media reels. The videos are often red carpets or feature podcasts with major A-list artists. The written articles include concert reviews, album and single features, and daily news postings. We would like to attach custom sponsorships to all of these sectors to allow for more travel to major music and lifestyle events. Role Overview Position Type: Independent Contractor / Freelance (Remote) Compensation: 100% commission-based (no fixed salary, retainer, or guaranteed hourly pay; paid upon client payment receipt) Core Objective: Source, pitch, negotiate, and close advertising or sponsorship packages to maximize revenue.

Key Responsibilities Prospecting & Outreach: Research potential brand partners, agencies, and advertisers via outreach, networking, and lead generation. Established relationships with potential client partners are a major plus Sales Pipeline Management: Oversee the entire sales cycle from initial contact and presentation to contract finalization and closing Selling: Explain ad value, formats, pricing, and audience demographics (CPM, impressions, reach) to match client goals. Contract Negotiation: Develop and negotiate pricing tiers, placement sizes, campaign durations, and deliverables in consulation with primary team and within company guidelines. Account Retention: Build long-term relationships with brands for repeat advertising business and campaign renewals.

Qualifications & Requirements Experience: 2 to 4 years of proven experience in advertising sales, media partnerships, or business development. Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, advertising, business administration, or a related field (preferred). Technical Skills: Familiarity with CRM software, pipeline tracking tools, and digital ad metrics (CPM, CPC, CTR). Industry Knowledge:You understand the music landscape, stay abreast of the hottest festivals, venues, and artist-fan activations and look for revenue-generating opportunities to partner with them. Soft Skills: Exceptional self-motivation, persuasive communication, resilience against cold-call rejection, and strong interpersonal skills
