La semana previa a la Semana Santa o Semana Mayor es conocida como Semana de Dolores. En México, desde el periodo virreinal eran dedicados a la Virgen María los conocidos Altares o Incendios de Dolores, instalados el sexto viernes de Cuaresma. Lleno de significados, estos altares son una de las tradiciones populares más arraigadas, particularmente en el Bajío y el centro de México.
