Berlin, Germany—Acast, the world’s largest podcast company, today announces its launch in Germany. Stefan Zilch has been appointed as regional managing director to drive the development of Acast’s offering to podcasters, listeners, publishers and advertisers in the region. The opening of the Acast office in Berlin sees the company establish its tenth location, following the launch of Acast France earlier this year, and comes after its successful funding round of $33 million in investment in Autumn 2018.

Most recently, Zilch oversaw the launch of Spotify in Germany in 2012 and was instrumental in establishing the company in the region in the following years. He said: “The podcast industry is developing so quickly around the world, and I look forward to leading Acast into the German market as part of such a strong global company. In Europe, we’ve already paid out over 50 million Euros to podcasters and publishers since Acast began. Whilst the German market is still a way behind the likes of the US - where advertising revenues are in the hundreds of millions - the general acceptance of advertising around podcasts is really high here, as recent studies have shown. Our goal is to inspire publishers and advertisers alike to embrace podcasts, and make Acast the leading podcast company in Germany.”

Ross Adams, CEO of Acast said: “The German market has such great potential as a burgeoning podcast scene. Stefan has vast experience and a strong network within the media, audio and advertising industries, and is the ideal leader for such a strategically important market for us.”

The launch of Acast Germany follows a highly successful first half of the year for the company which included the acquisition of US podcast technology company Pippa, the launch of a new groundbreaking paywalled content tool for publishers called Acast Access, as well as increasing its network of podcasts to over 7,000.
