Victoria BC, Canada—May 22nd will mark the release of a new cinematic science fiction audio drama from visual artist and science fiction scholar, Claire Scherzinger. While finishing her MFA in Visual Studies at the University of Victoria, Scherzinger worked with the music and theatre departments to create a sonically lush audio drama in the style of popular podcasts such as Homecoming and Blackout.

The podcast follows a team of scientists and military personnel as they embark on an expedition to the exoplanet, Arca-45672. In 2172, when humanity enters the end days of environmental collapse, a signal is received from the exoplanet: it is from the long-forgotten probe, Pioneer 10. This signal leads to the discovery that a new race of humanity has emerged on the exoplanet. Government and military bodies scramble as they see potential salvation for Earth in this other world. However, the question arises: should humanity be content to merely survive, or go down the ethically-fraught road of trying to build a new civilization?

Scherzinger will be hosting a launch event with a live reading from the podcast script on May 22nd at the Victoria Event Centre in Victoria, BC. She will then be taking this project to the Science Fiction Research Association Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii in June.
