Bone Valley Season 3 Exposes How the State of Kentucky and Citizen Investigators Wrongfully Convicted Six People

Press Release ·

What happens when the State of Kentucky, a local amateur sleuth, and a British journalist team up to solve a murder? In Graves County, Kentucky, their investigation resulted in six people convicted in the brutal killing of teenage mother Jessica Currin, including Quincy Cross, who has served 25 years of a life sentence despite the victim’s own father believing he’s innocent.

Lava for Good, Adweek’s 2024 Podcast Network of the Year, today announced the premiere of Bone Valley, Season 3: Graves County, hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Maggie Freleng. The six-part series premieres today and unravels one of the most troubling wrongful conviction cases in recent memory.

A Case That Defies Belief

“Graves County is about the stories we tell and choose to believe in order to find someone to blame in the pursuit of justice,” said Freleng, host of the acclaimed Wrongful Conviction podcast. “And what it takes to unravel the mess after lives have already been shattered.”

The case centers on Jessica Currin, a small-town fire lieutenant’s teenage daughter whose murder shattered a Kentucky community. But what followed may have been just as devastating: two failed investigations, and a third onethat spiraled out of control, leaving six co-defendants behind bars and a victim’s father fighting for the innocence of the man convicted of killing his own daughter.

Timeline of a Case Gone Wrong:

  • The Crime: Jessica Currin, a teenage mother, brutally murdered
  • The Investigation: Led by an unlikely trio of: The State of Kentucky, an amateur sleuth, and a British war correspondent
  • The Aftermath: Six people convicted, including Quincy Cross, sentenced to life
  • The Twist: The Victim’s own father advocates for Cross’ innocence even after 25 years in prison
