Hamilton ON, Canada—The Hamilton-based power team of Eli McIlveen and Sean Howard announce the launch date of their latest show, Civilized. Early release copies of the first episode are being sent to the press, but the show launches to the public on June 28.

Winners of multiple awards for their podcasts, Eli and Sean are excited to bring another full-cast, immersive audio fiction series to their listeners, this time using comedy improvisers.

Civilized is a workplace drama superimposed on a pretty ridiculous premise,” says Eli. “Our four main characters are stranded after crash-landing on an alien planet, but they are still compelled to carry out their same old duties. They’re searching for meaning and purpose in a world that really points up how absurd our own day-to-day job descriptions and responsibilities can be.”

The core cast is made up of seasoned performers from the Hamilton improv scene, including Sean, plus Kristi Boulton, Michael Divinski and Mbula Enobong.

This is a dark comedy and content warnings are given on each episode as the show explores horror and other genres within a comedy context.

“The idea of settling another planet also raises the spectre of colonialism,” says Sean. “The world where our characters have landed is already a thriving ecosystem, and may have a native civilization of its own. What right do they have to make this place their home? As our story continues, we want to dig into those issues with the help of a diverse cast of guest improvisers.”

Civilized is the latest audio fiction comedy podcast from Fable and Folly Productions, whose other award-winning shows include Alba Salix, Royal Physician; The Axe & Crown and the improvised live-play roleplaying game The End of Time and Other Bothers.
