Actor and writer Doug Motel launches 'Conscious Comedy' Podcast

Stage and screen actor Doug Motel transfers his quirky, spirituality-themed comedic plays into podcast format with Doug Motel’s Mind Salad

Mr. Motel is the author of several solo-plays including SHIVA ARMS (winner of the L.A. Weekly and Theatre LA Ovation awards), THIS IS THE SHOW a memoir with pop music composed by the author and most recently, WE THE PARTY PEOPLE a solo play with 15 characters reacting to the Trump presidency. Recent film and TV credits include the upcoming thriller BURN (with Josh Hutcherson from THE HUNGER GAMES) and as the evil Russian villain on THE TICK.
This fresh new podcast is loosely based on Doug’s critically-acclaimed solo-play MIND SALAD (L.A. Weekly Award nominee).
Within the familiar format of a host, in-studio guests, and callers, Mind Salad explores big ideas such as “What Is Reality?” and “How Do You Measure Success?” but listeners familiar with Doug’s work know that there is a catch. SPOILER ALERT: Doug Motel plays all the characters.
Guests include 9-year-old entrepreneur “Jason Kleinhoffer,” B movie actress and star of Cannibal Go Go Girls, “Bambi,” Italian paparazzo “Luigi” and Cannabis sommelier “Obi-Wan” to name just a few of the cast of hundreds.
Borne out of his frustration from navigating through the middlemen of casting directors and other guardians of the gates of show business, Motel has chosen to deliver his unique brand of humor directly to his fans.
Using the popular crowdsourcing platform Patreon, Doug enjoys both maintaining creative control and allowing audiences to fund his art directly. “For as little as $1 a month, people who enjoy my 'theatre for the ears’ can play a role in keeping me employed as an artist!” said Motel.
