Jane Coaston

Jane Coaston joins Crooked Media's What A Day as lead host

Press Release · Los Angeles, CA, USA ·

Crooked Media, the progressive, independent media company that delivers bold content to entertain, inform and inspire action, announced a new host for its daily news show, What A Day: Jane Coaston. Coaston will lead a rotating cast of contributors on the podcast Monday through Friday. The podcast, which premiered at #1 on the Apple Podcasts charts and is approaching its fifth year, will feature experts and voices from across the Crooked Media network.

Every morning on What A Day, Coaston and her guests will scour the biggest headlines to bring listeners the top news and stories that matter most to the way they live, work and play - in just 20 minutes. Through daily recaps and analysis, plus original reporting, the show will help listeners understand what matters and what they can do about it.

Previously, Coaston was the host of The Argument at the New York Times. She is a contributor to the New York Times opinion section and CNN, and she is a fellow at the University of Southern California’s Center for the Political Future.

For the first time ever, What A Day will be available on Youtube, joining other Crooked Media podcasts like Pod Save America, Hysteria, Strict Scrutiny, that have expanded to a video format. Social-first segments from What A Day will be featured on @RealCrookedNews, a new social media channel from Crooked Media focused on breaking news content.

Coaston’s hiring at Crooked Media follows a slew of newsroom hires this year alone, including Adriene Hill, Greg Walters, Erica Morrison and most recently Matt Berg, formerly of Politico, who pens the What A Day newsletter to support the company’s focus on covering breaking news content in the leadup to the 2024 election and beyond.

Jane’s first official episode hosting What A Day will air Monday September 9th.
