AYR Media Teams with Producer Alex Baskin for New Podcast and TV Series on Prolific Conman David Bloom
This article is at least a year old
Aliza Rosen’s AYR Media has joined forces with veteran producer Alex Baskin to unearth the ceaseless cons and crimes of Wall Street and Hollywood scammer David Bloom. The partners are producing a new podcast and developing a non-fiction television series, both of which will track the professional con artist’s decades of deceit, shedding light on previously unknown scams and victims, as well as the high-profile ruses that landed Bloom behind bars and in the press.
Rosen and AYR Media’s previous hits include top-rated podcasts such as “Queen of the Con” and “Bitter Blood,” while Baskin’s television credits include “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” as well as “Vanderpump Rules” and “Botched,” among many others.
The new podcast, KING CON: THE WHIZ KID (wt), will be narrated by one of Bloom’s latest victims – model, “The Hills: New Beginnings” cast member and Pizza Girl Founder and CEO Caroline D’Amore. The socialite recently posted on Instagram about her own harrowing experience with Bloom, which involved him impersonating the president of a major grocery store franchise as part of his elaborate scheme.
D’Amore will serve as a producer on the new podcast, while Rosen and Baskin will executive produce alongside veteran “con hunter” Johnathan Walton (host and EP of AYR’s “Queen of the Con”).
Following a wealthy upbringing on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and an art history degree from Duke University, David Bloom earned his nickname as the “Wall Street Whiz Kid” in the 1980s, swindling his own grandmother and more than 100 other people out of a combined $15 million. Bloom’s fraudulent investment scheme resulted in seven years in a federal prison, but his story was far from over. Since his release, he’s conjured up countless fake personas and backstories, targeting unsuspecting victims on both coasts, not excluding his own wife. Bloom’s most recent “marks” include the daytime patrons of famed Hollywood dive bar the Frolic Room and his neighbors at the Villa Carlotta luxury apartments. Despite the dozens of victims left in his wake and a recent arrest, Bloom currently remains at large.
“When it comes to con men, David Bloom is in a league of his own,” said Rosen. “With Alex and Johnathan onboard, and Caroline taking centerstage armed with heaps of personal evidence and access, we feel uniquely equipped to peel back the layers on Bloom’s ridiculously long list of misdeeds.”
Said Baskin, “This is a story that needs to be told. It’s compelling and cautionary at the same time, and I couldn’t be more proud to work with this team to bring attention, awareness and justice to this matter.”
Added D’Amore, “This is a deeply personal mission for me. Since posting about David, I’ve heard from so many other people who were scammed by him, as well as victims of similar cons. In sharing my experience and the accounts of others, I’m hopeful that we can help prevent future targets from falling into the same trap.”
