Hit true crime podcast To Live And Die In LA picks up 15m downloads, heads into finale

Atlanta GA, USA—Since its debut in February, Tenderfoot TV and Cadence13’s hit true crime podcast, TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA, has garnered over 15 million downloads. The series, which reached No. 1 on Apple Podcasts soon after premiere and has been a weekly fixture in the Top 10, has averaged over one million downloads per episode. Neil Strauss, host of the series, has continued to investigate in real time the tragic missing person’s case of Adea Shabani in Los Angeles, unearthing new leads that he hopes will bring family and friends of Shabani the justice they deserve. The podcast will conclude later this month.
An aspiring actress and model, 25-year-old Adea Shabani vanished without a trace from her apartment complex near Hollywood’s famous Walk of Fame in February 2018. Shabani was a native of Macedonia and moved to Hollywood with the hope of working to make her dreams of stardom come true, but the acting student disappeared shortly after. Within a week of Shabani’s disappearance, Strauss, Rolling Stone writer and bestselling author, began looking into Adea’s case, interviewing friends and family not for a podcast initially, but for an article to help increase fading media coverage. However, in the process a series of shocking events were uncovered, and Strauss even received death threats. A podcast became the best way to get the story out to the public in real time, and gather tips to obtain answers for the families involved.
With the finale on the horizon, Strauss has gone far beyond what the police and public know, uncovering new details, suspects and, soon, closure.
“I want to encourage anyone who hasn’t called in to our tipline with any information they know to reach out as soon as possible,” said Strauss. “Thanks already to those who have called in, the final episode looks like it will not just answer the questions listeners have had, but provide answers, closure, and possibly justice.”
Over the last 11 episodes in which Strauss and the Tenderfoot TV team have investigated Shabani’s disappearance, the podcast has reached the following markers:
- 15 million series downloads to date
- 12 million series downloads in its first 60 days of debuting
- Two million downloads of Episode 1
- An average of over one million downloads per episode
- 453,000 unique Apple devices have played the show
- 1.5 million total hours listened on Apple devices
- 75% of listeners are on Apple
“At Tenderfoot TV our goal is to tell important stories and to use the podcasting platform to positively impact the outcome of these unresolved cases.” said Donald Albright, co-founder and president of Tenderfoot TV. “The continuous growth of TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA is inspiring because each new listener can actually be an active participant in finding justice.”
“Tenderfoot continues to amaze with another incredible story, and Neil Strauss’ deft and compelling approach to sharing Adea Shabani’s story and searching for the truth has captivated millions of podcast listeners,” said Chris Corcoran, Chief Content Officer, Cadence13.
The podcast tipline, which has already proven beneficial to Strauss’s investigation, is 213-204-2073, or livediela@tenderfoot.tv. Tips and callers will be kept confidential and anonymous, if requested.
TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA is Tenderfoot TV’s first release under their podcast slate deal with Cadence13. The two podcast powerhouses will follow up with their second series , CULPABLE, debuting in June 2019. From Black Mountain Media and Tenderfoot TV, CULPABLE explores unsettled cases in which the guilty have yet to be held accountable. CULPABLE will dive deep into these cases with the hope of uncovering truth, delivering justice and shedding light on flaws in our modern day judicial system.
