PodFest Cairo 2023 took place on Saturday, 4 March, 2023 at The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) Tahrir Cultural Center (TCC). This was the fourth iteration of the event and it was hosted by AUC’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JRMC).

Highlights from the day’s events were SOWT Media’s CEO Ramsey G. Tesdell who shared insights into podcast listenership and monetization opportunities in the MENA region. He spoke about the importance of podcast artwork and branding as well as the growth for Arabic language audio content.

Rasha Eldeeb from Aswatona was the moderator for a session on Designing Your Digital Footprint: The Audio Edition with panelists Vereena Bishoy from AUC’s RADUC podcast, the podcast of the university’s student newspaper, The Caravan along with Wessam Abozeid from Podu Media. They addressed the details of posting your podcast online like including show notes and the use of hashtags to promote your podcast.

The second panel, The Benefits of Producing an Entertainment Podcast was moderated by Nouran Allam. She led the discussion with Maya Morshed, host of The Passionfruit Podcast and Omar Lofty from the Art D’egypte Podcast. They encouraged prospective podcasters to jump in and produce their audio content because there’s an audience out there seeking the knowledge that you have to share.

Is Your Wellness Podcast Stressing You Out was the last panel and it was in Arabic with Nour Ibrahim as the moderator. The panelists were Farida Ismail from the Safe Space, The Series; Lamaan from The Cut the Crap Podcast and Ahmed Feteha from the Jasadi Podcast. One of the key takeaways from this panel was to educate yourself well and try to spread accurate information. It should be noted that Feteha was the winner in the PodFest Cairo in 2022 Podcast Pitch Competition.

Kim Fox, the conference organizer is proud of this iteration of PodFest Cairo saying “It’s important that we gather in this way to support each other and share resources. Our locality allows us to disrupt this emerging media.”
