Jalopnik Shares True American Car Stories in New ‘Tempest’ Podcast Series

Jalopnik, the internet’s most-read car site, is making its foray into podcasting with Tempest, an anthology of gripping true stories about cars and the people who drive them. Each installment of the weekly, seven-episode series will feature a new, car-centric tale, ranging from the hilarious to the tragic, and even the supernatural.
Everyone has a story about a car, and that’s what Jalopnik is out to chronicle on Tempest. A man whose best and worst memories revolve around cars, even as a brain injury makes him lose them. A longshot emergency repair of a Nissan 200SX that may have been overseen by a guardian angel. The magic that happens when you figure out how to drive stick for the first time.
Author, essayist and car-lover David Obuchowski traveled across the country to meet everyday Americans and hear their most memorable stories about and in cars. With David’s narration and first-hand insight from the subjects themselves, “Tempest” will deliver compelling stories for gearheads and non-drivers alike.
On Episode 1, David kicks things off with a story of his own, recounting how a Hail Mary repair of his brother’s Nissan 200SX on a late-night road trip may have been overseen by a guardian angel. Both brothers discuss how they came to grips with what they experienced that night.
The first episode of “Tempest” is now available, with subsequent episodes premiering every Tuesday. Listeners can find “Tempest” on a number of platforms, including is now available across a number of platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Play, NPR One, and iHeartRadio.
