Apple has announced two firsts: its first dual-language podcast, but also the first to be part of the Apple TV+ connected subscription, offering Apple TV+ subscribers access to all episodes on release in Apple Podcasts. The show, “an Apple Original”, is called My Divo or Mi Divo, and is made by Futuro Studios. (It’s hosted on Amazon’s ART19).

First look: In podcast advertising, there’s “host reads”, “announcer reads”, and a new tool, “talent reads” - an ad voiced by talent from an existing podcast, but who is not featured in the specific podcast where the ad is inserted. New research released today by Gumball, ART19 and Signal Hill Insights shows that this “talent reads” format is an effective addition to an advertiser’s toolset. The study will be presented at Evolutions tomorrow at 9am, in Platinum F.

Later today, Apple Podcasts will announce the launch of Delegated Delivery (beta), allowing creators to publish Apple Podcasts Subscriptions content directly from their participating hosting provider dashboard. Blubrry, Libsyn, Triton Digital's Omny Studio and RSS·com are the first to offer the service: Acast, ART19, Buzzsprout and other providers will follow. Creators can still upload subscriber audio directly to Apple Podcasts Connect.

Amazon has bought enterprise podcast hosting and adsales company ART19, announcing the news on their podcasters portal. No details of the deal were given. ART19 already hosts Wondery podcasts: this gives Amazon access to podcast hosting technology and a monetisation platform for dynamically-inserted advertising across all apps. Kintan Brahmbhatt, GM of Amazon Podcasts says that the company is hiring. Podnews has been predicting the purchase since Amazon bought Wondery in December.

In particular, Amazon lacks the long tail that a consumer podcast host can give them - just as Acast bought Pippa, Spotify bought Anchor and SiriusXM bought Simplecast, Amazon could own a host of its own as a way to reach other platforms and to incubate new talent. The US's ART19 has expanded into Korea - the country with the highest podcast listenership in the world. ART19 has acquired BirchSound, a Korean podcast ad-seller, and has simultaneously struck exclusive deals with broadcasters SBS, KBS, CBS, and Chosun; and the country's most popular newspaper, Chosun Ilbo. 53% of Koreans listen to a podcast every month, according to the Reuters Institute, compared to 35% of the US doing so.

UK newspaper The Telegraph has launched The Briefing, a two-minute show updated for the morning and evening commute. In the Netherlands, Dag en Nacht Media, a platform for dutch podcasts, has announced that it will be using IAB compliant figures from 1 October. The UK commercial television network ITV has signed a deal with Acast as its partner platform to host and help grow its expanding roster of podcasts. Susie Warhurst, Acast's Global Head of Content, is speaking at Next Radio on Sept 17th. Meanwhile, ART19 has been selected by New York Media, publishers of New York Magazine and Vulture, to host and monetize podcast content.
