BBC Studios are to use Triton Digital for audio advertising and analytics tools for podcasts outside the UK, making the broadcaster’s podcasts available to over fifty ad exchanges on Triton’s global Audio Marketplace. The BBC continues to work with Acast, who are “excited to continue working together to grow the podcast market globally”.

Zai Bennett will be the new CEO and Chief Creative Officer for BBC Studios Productions His remit will span the company’s UK and international production units. He’s currently Managing Director of Content for Sky.

Correction: Yesterday, we reported on a number of hires at BBC Studios Audio - but were fed a wrong name. Ella Woods does not become Podcast Marketing Manager - she is “absolutely still a Development Producer,” she tells us. Ella Squire is the new Podcast Marketing Manager, but you knew that, since we reported on Jun 5 that she had started at the BBC, joining from News UK.

Annie Brown joins as Executive Editor in the US (she’s worked for the NYT and Wondery); Thomas Curry joins as Head of Production (he’s ex-Vespucci, Novel, and Audible). Ella Woods becomes Podcast Marketing Manager, and Mary Milad will be Podcast Insights Analyst.

Exclusive: The Podcast Show in London has all gone a bit Pete Tong - the renowned DJ has been announced as the host of the Spreaker and Triton Digital official party. A number of speakers for The Podcast Show have also been announced: including Will Pearson and Carrie Lieberman from iHeartPodcasts, Alison Lomax, YouTube’s UK Managing Director, and Richard Knight, the Director of Audio for BBC Studios. In the UK, legendary football broadcaster Jeff Stelling is launching his debut football podcast Football’s Greatest, a Folding Pocket production with BBC Studios, kicking off (if you'll pardon the soccer pun) with his first guest Chris Kamara today. The season is planned to be 40 episodes.

The Global Story is the new in-depth podcast from the BBC World Service and BBC Studios, and a sister podcast to the Global News Podcast. This new show, which starts on Nov 27, will focus on one story every day. It will be hosted by Katya Adler.

Doctor Who: Redacted is back for a new season today, to celebrate the show's 60th anniversary. The second season is made by BBC Studios for BBC Sounds.

The BBC could be examining ways to change their financial reporting to hide their presenters' earnings for podcasts. Currently, podcasts are paid from public service money (which has to be reported, like on page 97 of their Annual Report); one potential plan is to get the commercial arm, BBC Studios, to make the shows and pay the presenters, which wouldn't fall under these rules.

Bob Shennan is to join BBC Studios, the corporation's for-profit arm, as its first Director of Audio. He used to run BBC Radio 2, Europe's largest radio station; and was Director of Radio and Music for the BBC's public service.

Jennie Baird has been hired as EVP and MD of Digital News and Streaming for BBC Studios, and "will also assume responsibility for the BBC’s recently launched documentary and podcast services - BBC Select and BBC Podcasts". She joins from News Corp.

The BBC is making a new podcast that you'll only be able to hear on Spotify. BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the corporation, is co-producing the new show, Sorted with the Dyers, alongside production company Pod Almighty. It will not be available on the BBC Sounds app, which offers radio, music and podcasts from the BBC.

The BBC has a new boss. Tim Davie has been confirmed as the new Director-General, taking over from Lord Tony Hall who retires later this month. After being Director of Audio & Music for the corporation (which included their work in podcasting), Davie was in charge of BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the organisation. On his personal radio newsletter, our Editor explains why this is good news.

BBC Studios has invested into podcast app Pocket Casts. NPR, WNYC Studios and WBEZ Chicago have also added new investment: terms weren't disclosed. BBC Studios is the commercial arm of the BBC, which, almost a year ago, blocked its podcasts from Google Podcasts.

Spotify has signed Public Enemy's Chuck D to narrate "Stay Free: The Story of The Clash". It's being produced by BBC Studios, the corporation's commercial arm.

The BBC Studios Voice, a viewer/listener panel for the BBC, says this in a recent communication: "We were surprised to learn 38% of [our] panellists have never listened to a podcast before. Accessibility and awareness of interesting, quality podcasts were cited as barriers to listening. For those that do listen regularly, commuting has become a time to embed podcasts into people’s daily lives, with comedy coming through as a popular genre."
