    For 18-34 year-olds, podcasts are almost as popular as TV, says Pierre Bouvard of Cumulus Media and Westwood One, analysing Edison Research’s Infinite Dial data. 48% of 18-34s listen to podcasts each week - nearly as large as TV at 50%. Bouvard also shares “the one podcast slide every marketer should have”.

    YouTube is now the "most utilized podcast listening platform" in the U.S.: 29% say it is the platform they use the most, followed by Spotify (17%) and Apple (16%) - according to Cumulus Media and Signal Hill Insights, who have released the Spring 2023 Podcast Download Report.

    SiriusXM released its Q1/23 financials. Podcast revenue was up by 34% (though overall revenue declined by 2%). Cumulus Media also released their Q1/23 financials. Digital revenue (including podcast ads) was up by 23% (though total revenue slumped 12%).

    Cumulus Media, owners of Westwood One, says it achieved more than 1bn downloads in 2020, and podcasting is "pacing up more than 30% in Q1". Podcasting revenue grew 40% last year. "We've made our bet on partnership arrangements with talent as opposed to going out and spending a lot of money on IT or infrastructure," said CFO Frank Lopez-Balboa. The company uses Spotify-owned Megaphone.

    TRUE is a new weekly podcast from Cumulus Media's Westwood One and Imperative Entertainment's Podcast Division, focusing on weird-but-true stories. We're promised, among other things, the story of ‘Balloon Boy’ – a six-year-old, trapped in a homemade helium-filled gas balloon shaped to resemble a flying saucer.

    American Skyjacker: The Final Flight of Martin McNally launched today, looking at the story of a man who wanted to hijack a plane and get himself half a million dollars. It's part of a partnership between Imperative Entertainment's podcast division and Cumulus Media's Westwood One.

    Cumulus Media, owners of Westwood One, said in their earnings call that their podcast revenue was up 60% year-on-year in March. Downloads were also up year-on-year by 50%.

    Triton Digital is reporting that online audio shares to Public Radio and News/Talk stations have grown this last week, says Westwood One, who also wonders what happens to radio figures if everyone works from home? Not much, they say - the figures are deliberately made to smooth out highs and lows, as a average over a number of months. 90.8% of people who work from home are reached by AM/FM radio says the company, which is owned by Cumulus Media, a company that operates 428 radio stations.     Triton Digital is to produce a podcast ranker in the US, called Podcast Reports. Already signed up are NPR, Entercom (inc Cadence13, RADIO·COM and Pineapple Street Media), Stitcher and Cumulus Media (inc Westwood One). The company is already producing a ranker in Australia, the Netherlands and Latin America, and has been producing a ranker for online radio for some time; Triton Digital uses logfiles to produce IAB certified data.

    Cumulus Media's Westwood One Podcast Network has hired four new producers. Madena Parwana (ex Bloomberg) is Senior Producer, Core Content; Lou Pellegrino (Cadence13) is Senior Producer, Development; Rebekah Wineman (WSJ) is Audio Mixing Engineer/Studio Technician; and Sarah McCrory (Fox News Channel) is Associate Producer.
