Libsyn's Glow, the company's podcast monetisation platform, has seen a 167% revenue growth since its acquisition in April 2021, the company says. The product lets podcasters sell subscriptions and accept monetary support.

Acast was announced as a launch partner for Spotify's Open Access subscription tool in July last year; but Acast+ doesn't work with the tool. Memberful and Libsyn's Glow were also announced as launch partners; but have also yet to roll out support. We hear whispers that Spotify Open Access requires mandatory caching of audio, which cedes considerable control away from podcast hosting companies.

Stitcher released data for 2021, showing their consumption data and, separately, data from a creator survey. 41% of larger independent podcasters earn revenue from paid membership platforms like Memberful, Patreon, Glow or others.

Hot on the heels of Fireside comes Glow - in terms of name confusion, that is. Just as Mark Cuban's Fireside is nothing to do with Dan Benjamin's Fireside, so Amazon's Glow is nothing to do with Libsyn's Glow. Amazon's Glow, launched yesterday, is a device to help parents play with their kids remotely, while Libsyn's Glow is a podcast membership service. We're pleased to have cleared that one up.

Spotify has announced the first partners for their Open Access feature, which will allow paid subscriptions from third parties to work with Spotify. They include Acast+, Glow․fm, Memberful, Supporting Cast and Supercast, as well as a number of publishers. See analysis, below.

Podfan, a membership support service for podcasters, has dropped charges for recurring listener support. The move follows competitor Glow, who did similar last week.

Exclusive: Glow, a service that lets you build a podcast membership program, has just announced that the company is dropping all charges to collect listener support. Patreon charges between 5% and 8% to most content creators. "We believe that in order for podcasting to thrive, listener-supported and membership models have to thrive too, and we want to be the easiest route for podcasters to build those models," explained Amira Valliani, the co-founder and CEO. The company will continue to charge for subscription podcasts and other services.
