The UK’s Goalhanger has announced its latest launch - The Rest is Classified will launch at the end of this month, hosted by a former CIA analyst and a national security journalist. The show will uncover the murky and often misunderstood world of international espionage. It’s to launch on podcast apps and YouTube.

After the success of Goalhanger’s The Rest is Politics tour of the UK, The Rest is Entertainment has announced a live show in the Royal Albert Hall on Oct 4. The show, presented by Marina Hyde and Richard Osman, is one of the UK’s top 25 podcasts.

Edison Research published the top 25 podcasts in the UK for Q2/24. It was Goalhanger’s time to shine - The Rest is Politics remained at #4, with TRI Football and TRI History both gaining in the charts, and TRI Entertainment a new entry at #17. It’s also the first time that a BBC podcast has made it into the top 10 (in this General Election period, Newscast made it to #9). Acast and Megaphone both host 8 of the top 25; the BBC have five.

UK podcast producer Goalhanger is celebrating record numbers for its shows, with tens of millions of downloads and YouTube views for its politics and football shows. The country has just been through an election and the Euros football championship.

The Trawl has been acquired by Global. The politics show, hosted by political commentator Marina Purkiss, and broadcaster and writer Jemma Forte, is now to be produced by Global's in-house production team, and sold by DAX. It was with Goalhanger.

In the UK, a General Election has been called for July 4. Goalhanger’s The Rest Is Politics podcast will be broadcast on Channel 4 television during the campaign, and the hosts will be part of the TV coverage that night alongside Emily Maitlis from The News Agents.

City, University of London is looking for a Podcaster in Residence. The position is open to early career practitioners, with under five years of professional experience. The university is also offering scholarships and bursaries to UK-based students, in a programme funded by Spotify and Goalhanger.

In the UK, Persephonica launches Political Currency today - a new political podcast to compete with Goalhanger's The Rest Is Politics and the company's own The News Agents. The show is hosted by George Osborne, a former UK Chancellor, and Ed Balls, Shadow Chancellor (positions similar to the Treasury Secretary in the US).

Goalhanger Podcasts is to switch to Spotify's Megaphone and the Spotify Audience Network. The company is currently with Acast, and produces some of the largest shows in the UK including The Rest Is Politics. The companies will jointly announce their new relationship at The Podcast Show in London tomorrow.
