Link to the Breaker podcast app on your website? Check they still work. The app was acquired by Maple Media a year ago; as of today, no Breaker links to podcasts work on the service, and the Breaker website forwards to Player FM. The app's still listed in the app stores, though; it now appears to be a blue-skinned version of the Player FM app.

Social podcast app Breaker is not to close after all. The app has been acquired by Maple Media, an LA-based publisher, which already owns Player FM and Podkicker. The Breaker team will still be joining Twitter.

Libsyn are beta-testing "Libsyn 5", the latest user interface for the podcast host. Customers can apply here to take part. The company also announced a distribution partnership with podcast app Player FM.

After we reported it as a bug, Player FM's RSS feed checker now identifies itself correctly (rather than
Ruby
which was its useragent until now). We're seeing it identify itself as something like PlayerFM/1.0 Podcast Sync (687 subscribers; url=https://player.fm/series/podnews-podcasting-news)
which looks excellently informative. Thank you!

Exclusive: App company Maple Media, which purchased podcast app Player FM on Apr 30, has bought another: Android podcast app Podkicker. Podkicker has had more than 500,000 downloads (Player FM has more than 5 million). We're told a formal announcement is to be made in the coming weeks.

Player FM's iOS app has had an update: the popular podcast app now includes Apple Watch support, a 'relax and sleep' collection of shows, and full support for iPad.

Maple Media, who bought podcast app Player FM earlier this year, are about to buy another, unnamed, podcast app - according to the Los Angeles Business Journal, which claims that "podcast biz is heating up".

Player FM, a podcast app, has been purchased by Maple Media, a company that owns more than 30 apps. Player FM was launched in 2012 by Michael Mahemoff, a former Googler; terms weren't given. (Congratulations, Michael!)

It’s now day seven without any categories in Apple Podcasts apps while the company reworks them. Spreaker has supported them since last week; podcast app Player FM has completed integration, though points out that their own categories are more detailed. Podnews podcast pages, like this for The Thing About Cars, now display the Apple primary genre (in this case, 'comedy').

Podchaser has announced 21 data partnerships of podcast websites and apps using Podchaser creator data. Services include RadioPublic, Player FM, and Podnews. "Podnews links to Podchaser from our podcast pages whenever we mention a podcast in our free daily newsletter," says our Editor, James Cridland.

Podcast search engine Listen Notes, which we first mentioned on Sept 21, is described as a perfect podcast tool for Windows 10 users. (Also, try Player FM or Pocket Casts, which both have a web interface).

Player FM, a capable Android podcast app, moves to v4 with a redesign. The app is free, with a newly-announced monthly subscription fee. The app already claims over 100 paying users, and premium features include aggressive storage compression to fit more podcasts onto your phone. It's in Google Play now, and v4 is rolling out over the next few days.
