    There was a new podcast episode posted every 0.8 seconds last month, according to the Podcast Index (visualised by the Podcast Business Journal). However, the number of active podcasts (updated in the last 30 days) dropped by 10,000 last month, to 332,511.

    A new slate of stories from LAist's Imperfect Paradise have been revealed; the show's four-part stories will feature a story about a group of dancers working to unionize one North Hollywood strip club and the pitfalls they faced along the way; then stories about the Colorado River, the Mexican border, and the lions, coyotes and bears moving into LA. We've an interview with LAist's Shana Naomi Krochmal tomorrow in the Podcast Business Journal.

    TEGNA released its latest financials. It’s the owner of the Locked On Podcast Network, and that saw a 37% increase of downloads and views in 2023, broke 30mn in October, and is expanding into video. Our sister publication the Podcast Business Journal will have an interview with David Locke later today about the company’s strategy to get close to audiences.

    In an email, BetterHelp, the biggest podcast advertiser in the US, has informed podcast networks that it will be using the ArtsAI measurement pixel in ad campaigns in 2024 for measurement and optimisation. The email says: "They would love for their network partners to cover the pixel costs and it seems like several of their partners have agreed to this already." (Our sister publication the Podcast Business Journal interviewed ArtsAI's Erik Lundberg last month).

    Live One's Chairman and CEO Rob Ellin is interviewed later today in the Podcast Business Journal. Speaking about the planned acquisition of certain assets of Kast Media, he said: "We've spoken to every podcaster. We've offered a really fair deal. No other platform is going to pay them for the past. You cannot move with a fistful of anger - move over when you're truly in partnership with us. All of us want to grow and build together."     Staffan Rosell, the CEO of PodX Group, is interviewed in this week's Podcast Business Journal. Their plans are not to turn podcasts into TV: "We say to all the companies that we meet that it’s audio first, it’s podcast first. If you’re successful and you have something fantastic that someone wants to make television or film out of, that’s great, but that’s a bonus.     Spotify believes that podcast advertising could be easier and more efficient for ad buyers. In an interview to be published later today for the Podcast Business Journal, Nina Harvey says the Spotify Audience Network is "able to bring to an advertiser a single buying point to supply an efficient way to access audiences at scale."
