Podcast production company Broccoli Productions is to close this week. The company, which lists six members of staff on its website, says its partnership with Sony Music Entertainment ended early - the joint venture was announced in October 2019. Sony made a number of redundancies at the end of last year; and closed an earlier JV with Three Uncanny Four in Jan 2022.

It's an investigative podcast detailing how a small-town funeral homeowner and her elderly mother forged their way into the shadowy world of body dealing - giving families fake ashes, while selling the bodies themselves. How To Fail With Elizabeth Day has signed with Sony Music Entertainment. The show has had more than 45mn downloads since 2018, and joins Sony Music Entertainment from January next year.

Somethin'Else, the podcast and radio producer bought by Sony Music Entertainment in 2021, is to pull out of making 18 different radio shows for the BBC. The Media Podcast reported that other programme producers have also pulled out, saying that BBC production budgets - at a reported £800 for a two-hour music show - are too small to be viable.

One example of how the Spotify/Anchor news might make things better for listeners: My 90s Playlist is a new show from Sony Music Entertainment, with the first episode featuring a deep dive into TLC's No Scrubs. The 3'34" song itself, on a Sony Music record label, is played for less than two minutes on the podcast, and continually talked-over by the hosts, music and pop culture enthusiasts Tracy Clayton and Akoto Ofori-Atta, apart from one 25-second clip. To hear the song in full - on Spotify at least - would, surely, be a good thing.
