The Spanish-language podcast platform iVoox has published its look back at 2023. iVoox Rewind is available to audiences as a personalised view, and the company has also released a number of statistics from it.

Spanish-language podcast platform iVoox has released an annual report into the state of podcasting in Spanish. Podnews has an English translation; the Spanish version is on the iVoox website. A third of all Spanish podcasters started their show in the last year; over a quarter of shows include video; and almost 20% are earning revenue from their podcasts.

A study by the Observatorio Nebrija del Español at Nebrija University in Madrid examined 263 original podcasts published last year by Amazon Music, Audible, Cuonda, iVoox, Podimo, Podium Podcast, Sonora and Spotify. The study discovered that 68% of original podcasts from these companies were only available with a paid subscription. Sonora led Spanish podcast production in 2022, with 84 original podcasts.

iVoox has launched monetisation using dynamic advertising for its Spanish-language podcasters. Creators who publish their show on iVoox will earn revenue from the ads inserted in their episodes.

Last month, Buzzsprout saw a market share growth of almost a percentage point, according to John Spurlock's LiveWire. RSS·com overtook iVoox to become the #9 biggest podcast hosting company, as measured by total new episodes published; Megaphone overtook Soundcloud to reach #7.

Spanish-language podcast platform iVoox has shared the most listened-to podcasts in 2022 on the service. The company claims more than 800m listens, more than 13m episodes published and more than 220,000 new podcasts carried on their platform, of which 72,000 are in Spanish. The most listened-to podcast is Dias Extraños ("Strange Days"), covering stories that "are left out of the media's focus because they are considered too controversial, too strange or contrary to the corporate interests of the media themselves".

iVoox has launched a new ad marketplace called AdVoices. The first marketplace in the Spanish language, it allows advertisers access to podcasts and videopodcasts that best fit theit target audience.

Livewire has published its top ten podcast hosts (by new episodes) data: Megaphone has climbed above iVoox to reach #8. You can now buy daily access to the data. Livewire also reports that Amazon Cloudfront powers just over 50% of all podcast hosting; if AWS falls over, half of all podcasts will too. We'd report on it when that happens, but we use AWS too, so :shrug:

iVoox has analysed the growing number of podcasts in Spanish. 40% of new Spanish-language podcasts last year were created by women; there are now more than 300,000 podcasts in Spanish. In 2021, the most new podcasts were made in the Art and Literature genre.

Spanish-language podcast platform iVoox has published its 2021 financial report. Now twelve years old, the profitable company claims over 70 million episodes and more than 700m listeners. Income from subscriptions and advertising doubled during 2021. The company also spends half a million euros a year (US $545,000) on R&D.

Spanish language audio on-demand platform iVoox has launched subscription platform iVoox Plus. Promising more than "10,000 exclusive episodes from the best shows", the service is €9.99 a month (US $11.75). Content creators will be paid based on total plays and audience.

At the recent Madrid Podcast Day, Spanish podcast app iVoox was poised to launch a second round of iVoox Originals: unlike other podcast platforms, iVoox works with existing popular Spanish podcasts to move them exclusively inside the iVoox app. Speaking to Podnews, the company says that increased visibility inside the app and marketing for each podcast quickly replaces any loss of audience from removing them from other platforms, and podcasters also get a guaranteed minimum fee based on active subscribers.

Old data, but worthwhile understanding: Spanish smartphone penetration is over 90% (population: 46m), but the more interesting figure is the Android market share which is 93.9% - small wonder, therefore, that readers of podnews in Spain don't really care about the Apple Podcasts store, and dismiss it as not having much impact. If you're a Spanish-language podcast, you apparently want to be making friends with iVoox, who describe themselves as the leading podcast platform in Spanish (and also host and monetize).
