  • 9.4 million people in the UK consume podcasts every week, according to data from Ipsos MORI, which has produced a downloadable set of podcasting stats in the UK. It uses data from MIDAS and the BBC’s internal Compass tool.

  • Will Spotify ruin podcasting? argues that Spotify plan to, eventually, “force podcasters to live in its ecosystem.” The author, Matt Stoller, also argues that Spotify should be blocked from purchasing The Ringer.

  • The Latin Podcast Awards have unveiled their first round of nominees.

  • Issue 7 of Pod Bible magazine, which is printed and available to UK commuters, is now available to read online. (Interestingly, they print Spotify barcodes for ease of listening.)

  • If your podcast host isn’t hosting its audio on a secure server (that uses https:// at the beginning) then be aware that any embedded audio player will fail in October this year: Google Chrome will block non-HTTPS audio in embedded players once Chrome gets to v86. We’ve added a test for this in our podcast pages.
