Using Amazon Web Services for podcasting

  • Podcasting on Amazon Web Services - a presentation from Amazon and Australian podcast company Whooshkaa, at the recent Amazon re:Invent conference in Las Vegas NV USA.

  • In other Amazon news: Amazon launches in Australia. Audible, the audiobook and drama service, is also launched (books only). No Amazon Prime, nor any Fire TV sticks other than the basic one, and no Amazon Echo speakers. Surprisingly, lots of products are out of stock. They also don’t sell digital radio receivers. Interestingly, they do sell Chromecasts, via Kogan.

  • A Nordic startup, Kieku, aims to learn from your listening habits and, using AI, give you more podcasts that you might like. The website is bright and colourful. Kieku is based in Helsinki, Finland.

  • Nigeria: a new podcast from RADR, a youth orientated website, reviewed here by ynaija: “From the get-go, it’s obvious the guys behind this podcast need to figure the out the sound, because you can barely either guy even when they’re speaking out. On the plus size, they don’t bother to waste precious time trying to convince they’re ‘real people’ with inane sidetalk.” - ouch.

  • What do grime and podcasts have in common? asks this UK-based website. “Comparing podcasting to MC’ing/grime may seem bizarre at first but the two things carry the same spirit–the spirit of “do it yourself if you want to be heard”—and are comparable in more ways than one.” (Grime?   • The Chattanoogan (Chattanooga TN USA) publicises a new course at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga which promises to teach podcasts. “New media storytelling is a 21st-century skill that every creative and skilled professional should have regardless of their job.” It’ll be run by WUTC-FM’s Will Davis.
