Australian Podcast Awards 2020 nominees announced

• The nominees were announced for the 2020 Australian Podcast Awards. You can also vote for the Listeners’ Choice, too.

• PodcastOne Australia, which is operated by Southern Cross Austereo, saw an increase of 96% in revenue in the financial year ending June 30. It brought in AUD$4.6 (US$3.2m) in revenue.

• In India, Podcash is looking for beta users - it’s a service to help podcast producers in India to connect with advertisers and monetise their content.

• Khabri, a Hindi-language podcast app in India, has revealed data showing most listeners are male, and aged under 24.

• Podnews has added privacy information to our podcast pages - so you know which podcasts may contain tracking, dynamic content insertion, or are being served insecurely. This adds to the podcast hosting data we’ve listed since January. The data is open and community-maintained - see our 'tech stuff’ section for more.

• How do you know if a podcast is using web-tracking or dynamic ad insertion? You could roll your own database, or - as of today - use an open list containing the capabilities of podcast hosts and podcast prefix companies. Unlike other examples, this contains verification information, and is community-maintained.

  • The privacy data is also synched to the podcast-privacy tool, which contains a JSON API and NPM package.

• PowerPress 8.4.1 was released at the end of last week. It includes a submission tool to The Podcast Index and to Amazon Music.

• Podcast Index has added podcast pages for every podcast in the index.

• A podcast thumbnail image server is up and running. podcastimages·com has a promise of no logging.

• Whatever happened to OPUS? A good, open, audio format, that sounds great at lower bitrates - here’s a sample feed containing one piece of audio in Opus format. Looks like iOS users are out of luck, but this format plays for Android users.
