  • Pandora has released a desktop app for users of Windows. It doesn’t let you stream podcasts though.

  • Spotify has bought SoundBetter, a music production marketplace. It will be integrated with Spotify for Artists, the company’s equivalent of Spotify for Podcasters, but for, er, music artists.

  • US music industry magazine Billboard writes a piece about music licensing for podcasts. As you’d expect, it’s more detailed than many, indicating that a “freelance music-clearance agent” is able to clear tracks; and pointing out that “every hour a consumer spends listening to a serialized story could be one less he or she spends hearing music on a streaming service.”

  • Of note: the dutch version of iTunes (on desktop) has a Podcasts In English page. Research in the country seems to suggest that most young people have no language barrier to English content.

  • Fireside have released a new web player, with a bunch of new features including speed controls and a waveform visualisation. Meanwhile, Transistor have also rolled-out their own new web player.

  • Spreaker Studio is now fully compatible with Chromebooks, the best-selling laptops on Amazon, and the most-bought for education. Spreaker Studio requires a Chromebook with Android support (which is most, but not all of them).

    • If your Chromebook doesn’t have Android support, their blog recommends switching channel to the unstable developer release: as long-time ChromeOS users: don’t do that. It’s more likely that you don’t have Android support at all anyway, and the dev channel is a shortcut to a world of pain.
