CBS Radio signs with Omny Studio, New York City government touts podcasting industry, and tips from Adam Carolla.

  • Podcasting in New York is now big business. That’s not according to any one podcasting company or other - it’s according to the New York City government, who’ve just released a 33-page report (pdf), full of quotes, stats and details. Now, this is now to do it.

  • Adam Carolla (who holds the record for most-downloaded podcast) hosted a six-hour podcasting masterclass recently: a recap of the event was written-up for OC Weekly, an Orange County publication. Lots of nice hints and tips in here: both for making and for monetising podcasting.

  • In the US, CBS Radio already has more than 350 podcasts, and they’ve done a deal with Omny Studio for hosting, as part of the company’s on-demand strategy. It joins radio companies across the world using Omny Studio.

  • A new podcast network in Australia, called Nearly, launches: run by Courtney Carthy, a former ABC development producer. “A major form of measurement was increase in downloads compared to the previous episode. Give it a week and if it’s doing better than the previous episode that’s success”.

  • Also in Australia, the 2 Guys 1 Cup AFL podcast has got a sponsor: Holden, the GM subsidiary. They’ll be sponsoring the podcast right through the 2017 season. The deal was through Whooshkaa and Carat; the podcast will host with Whooshkaa.
