CBC's daily podcast, Front Burner, launches Monday

  • In Canada, the CBC launches its daily news podcast on Monday. Called Front Burner, it is hosted by Jayme Poisson, as we reported on 1 Aug. Rogers has been running The Big Story as a daily news podcast since June; and Corus’s weekly This is Why launched at a similar time.

  • What’s next for podcasting? Paid subscriptions and exclusive content, thinks Eric Peckham of TechCrunch. He notes that the successful Chinese podcast model is mainly funded in this way.

  • Bitplatter have posted analysis of discussions about major retail brands in podcasts. Amazon is the clear #1; the rest are bricks and mortar stores.

  • The Cossío Awards, a journalism prize in Spain, is now recognising podcasts as a valid entry format.

  • Colombian podcasts don’t need help: they need money, and journalism in general - so says Carolina Guerrero from Radio Ambulante.

  • iHeartRadio’s Podcasting Awards - Jeffrey Cranor, co-writer for Welcome to Night Vale, has views. As do many indie podcasters in Facebook groups.

  • Google Podcasts broke for some users. This happened to your Editor, too, who is opted-in to the beta version of the Google app. To fix it, I de-registered from the beta version of the app, and reinstalled it. (Beta versions include bugs: that’s kind of the point).

  • New York Public Media (who own WNYC) has a new Chief Operating Officer, Depelsha McGruder. She joins from MTV and BET Networks, and is a former on-air reporter.
