Mark Cuban's 'next-gen' podcasting platform

• Mark Cuban and Falon Fatemi are co-founding a “next-gen podcast platform” where hosts can talk to fans live and monetise their conversations, reports The Verge - it’s said to be similar to Clubhouse but with the ability to record conversations. Cuban sold internet radio company broadcast·com to Yahoo for $5.7bn.

  • The app is reportedly to be called Fireside, which comes as news to the five year-old podcast host Fireside. “Surprising and more than a bit concerning,” says Fireside’s Dan Benjamin.

• In Norway, podcast company Acast report a 266% increase in revenue last year, and a 39% increase in new advertisers. Plan-B, a Norwegian content creator which produces some of Norway’s biggest podcasts, has signed with the company.

• The Brussels Podcast Festival is looking for your votes for the Public Prize 2021. The event itself takes place over three days from February 25.

• “I have a few thoughts on what Clubhouse really means for podcasting. In short: not that much.” Rebel Base Media’s Mark Asquith suggests that Clubhouse is “a solid way of getting cheap attention right now, but it’s not likely to push people to listen to your podcast.”
