Podcast downloads fall worldwide following Apple bug

The effects of the Apple Podcasts download bug could be clearer today after the release of new data from Triton Digital. The data allows us to compare overall download numbers from May, which was largely unaffected, with those across July in a number of different territories. Apple’s buggy app began to be rolled out from May 24, and was fixed on Jul 31.
- In the U.S. Podcast Report, Stitcher Media remained at #1. Weekly downloads from top 10 publishers fell 13.3% in July vs May. iOS has a 53% share in the US.
- In the Netherlands Podcast Report, NPO, the public service broadcaster, remained at #1. Weekly downloads from participating publishers fell 6.4%. iOS has a 39% share in the Netherlands.
- In the Australian Podcast Report, released last week, ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network Australia remained at #1. Weekly downloads from top 10 publishers fell 6.7%. iOS has a 55% share in Australia.
- A separate measurement company, Podtrac, report numbers are now increasing again, coinciding with Apple’s fix rolling out.
