Spotify says the number of shows on its platform has increased by 240% so far in 2020. Since the last International Podcast Day, the number of podcasts created on Anchor, the company’s free podcast host, has increased by more than 380%. Today, the company has launched:
- their Spotify for Podcasters platform in a localised version for Brazil and Mexico
- International Podcast Day Instagram filters
- The top 5% podcast listeners in English-speaking countries will receive special notifications today saying so (if you get one, let us know!)
- There’ll be a post here from 10am NY time with more.

Libsyn’s YouTube publishing isn’t working at the moment - the company is blaming YouTube. Their Annual Meeting for stockholders will be on November 17; the company has also announced fewer stockholders will be required to make decisions at these meetings. And is this the new Libsyn5 player?

JioSaavn, another streaming audio platform for South Asia, claims a 200% increase in shows in their podcast catalogue since January 2019, and over 60% of their 18-35 year-old users are listening to podcasts every week.

Podfriend, a podcast app that uses Adam Curry’s Podcast Index, has launched a web version, which also works as a PWA on mobile.

Has the NYT been had? Shehroze Chaudhry, the subject of New York Times podcast Caliphate has been arrested on suspicion of hoax-terrorist activity, noting that a police investigation has found no evidence of the links between him and Islamic State that he claimed in the podcast.

Will a true-crime podcast cause a criminal trial to never take place? The subject of a popular Australian true-crime podcast, Chris Dawson, has won a delay to his court case, with the judge calling the podcast the “most egregious” example of media interference with a criminal trial process. (The podcast isn’t being named in Australian media; many episodes of it have been removed.)
