The winners of the iHeartPodcast Awards

• The iHeartPodcast Awards were announced in New York, hosted by actor and comedian Brian Baumgartner. The Podcast of the Year Award went to Las Culturistas, but in our list of the winners, which includes links, production companies and podcast hosts, you’ll see that out of 28 awards, iHeart won four (similar to last year). Unlike last year, no Spotify shows won any award; only two were nominated.

• The Podcast Show 2023 in London has announced a number of speakers, including Adam Buxton, The News Agents, Nish Kumar and Alice Levine. Our Editor will also be speaking. Use code PODNEWS for a discount!

• Agreements: Audacia has signed with AdsWizz to represent marketplace ad inventory across streaming and podcasts in Asia … Backyard Ventures has signed with Libsyn’s Automatic Ads to help monetise their content.

• Data: Podcast creators seem fine with AI being used to generate podcast content, though podcast listeners are less convinced, says research from Acast. (Podnews does not use AI for generation of content) … Edison Research is announcing the top three podcasts in the US (based on total audience) in many popular genres this week. Here’s fiction, music and tv/film, and education, science and history.

• The Australian Podcast Ranker for February has been released, containing shows from Shameless Media and Squiz Media for the first time. The ABC’s figures could be in next month. Kyle & Jackie O, from iHeart, is the new #1 podcast. SCA’s LiSTNR claims it now reaches more than 6.5m monthly listeners.

• A YouTube video examines podcasting in Myanmar (Burma) since the military coup in 2021. It’s produced by DVB, a banned media organisation within the country.

• The Verge likes the new combination XLR/USB-C socket on the new RØDE NT1.

• Pocket Casts has upgraded its experience for Apple CarPlay.

• Crime Junkie’s Ashley Flowers was part of a panel at SXSW.

Moves and hires

• Devon Taylor has been made Senior Editor of The Daily from The New York Times. She joins from Spotify’s Gimlet: “I’m very excited to join this extremely talented team and dive headfirst into the world of daily news,” she tweets.
• Brendan Monaghan, the former CEO of Spotify’s Megaphone, is now CEO of a car repair company. He left Megaphone a year ago.
