Canadians enjoy the taste of podcasts

The Infinite Dial Canada 2021 was published. 38% of Canadians now listen to podcasts every month. This study is built to be comparable with other Infinite Dial countries, and places Canadian monthly consumption close to the US (40%) and Aus (37%).
- Most podcasts are listened-to at home; but 35% say they listen to podcasts most often on a computer/laptop, a significant increase from last year.
- The CBC in Canada look back at the emergence of podcasting in the country in 2005.

Castbox appears to be linking to subscriber-only RSS feeds for podcasts, according to an investigation by The Verge. Castbox claim it’s not intentional, though one feed had 14,000 subscribers.

Podcastle announced new production tools which “enables creators to convert text into podcasts in seconds”.

Catalina and iHeartMedia are to work together to see what effect podcast advertising has on product sales.

New shows: Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter has scored a podcast deal with sports podcaster Blue Wire Podcasts. Music and entertainment stars Este Haim and Darren Criss are to produce a podcast with Audacy’s Cadence13, and Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo is also to get her own Cadence13 podcast. Tenderfoot TV is to give To Live And Die In LA a second season, and launched two new shows. Sony Music Entertainment announced a new slate including true crime and kids/family shows.

Audio for kids is the focus of the Ready To Learn Podcast Accelerator, from PRX, PBS KIDS, and CPB. The program announced six teams of audio creators who are taking part.

We’re still seeing reports that Apple Podcasts isn’t working correctly: particularly slow to update episodes, and errors that are stopping some publishers from submitting new shows. We’d love to tell you more, but Apple isn’t communicating with us - or with you. We guess there’s good news in terms of fixing some of the issues: and would love to pass that on.
