  • Understanding the Misappreciated Art of Podcasting is a really nice, long-form article about why podcasts are quite different: “I call [podcasting] countercultural because it uses time to its advantage while every other platform is feeding off out collective ADHD. Facebook is telling its partners that the average human attention span is 8.25 seconds and encourages them to exploit this information in order to tailor their content. Listening to a podcast involves…well, LISTENING to someone’s thoughts without the possibility of you ever interrupting them. It’s a platform where people are free to shape a context for who they are and what they’re saying. The only format they have to abide to is a recording time, which is often not set in stone.”

  • The Chicago Tribune asks: Speed listening — efficient, blasphemous or just nutty? Contains quotes from Ira Glass (“just fine”), Alix Spiegel (“Go ahead! Listen on double time! That way you can crush the dreams of idealistic radio producers twice as fast!”), and Mia Lobel (“if I found out that someone was listening to one of my shows at high speed, I’d be highly offended.”) as well as many others.

  • Where is Hollywood looking for its next hit? Podcasts, claims Wired magazine.
