Amazon buys rights to another big podcast

My Favorite Murder and other Exactly Right Media podcasts will have advertising sold by Amazon, and will be on Amazon Music for a week before general release. The show was with Stitcher; and is a top ten show in Triton Digital’s Podcast Ranker and Edison Research’s Podcast Consumer Tracking Report. It’s said to have earnt $15m in 2019; terms weren’t disclosed.

• Timber is to close its podcast hosting platform in “three weeks or so”, according to Tanner Campbell. The company has emailed customers, we understand, but there’s no mention yet on Timber’s website or social media.

• The Podcast Host is launching “the world’s first ever generative podcast NFT collection”. Minted on the Solana blockchain, a hundred episodes will be released over the next five weeks, for 0.2 SOL each.

  • In addition, the podcast making app run by The Podcast Host, Alitu has received $675,000 of funding.

• Ross Mathews and Nikki Boyer are co-hosting The Ambies, the second annual Awards for Excellence in Audio run by The Podcast Academy. They’re the co-hosts of Dying for Sex, the winner of the 2021 Podcast of the Year; the ceremony is on March 22 in Los Angeles, and live online.

• Singer Neil Young has requested that Spotify remove his music, or remove Joe Rogan. The singer claims Rogan is “spreading fake information about vaccines”.

• Jodi Nussbaum has been named Chief Operating Officer of kids and families podcast producer Tinkercast. She had worked for 26 years at Sesame Street. Ali Paksima is the company’s new CFO.
• John W Gibbons has been hired by Libsyn as President and Chief Product Officer.
