
“Podcast Election” reflected in top shows

Edison Podcast Metrics released the top US podcasts for Q4/2024. The “podcast election”’s effect was visible, as Theo Von’s show rose three spots to #5, and Pod Save America rose to #10; conservative talk shows have also done well. Talk Tuah with Hailey Welch debuted at #11: her last show was in mid December focusing on “how to avoid getting cancelled”, just days before her crypto coin crashed in value, and she cancelled herself.

Alphabet, the parent company of Google and YouTube, released its Q4/24 results. The CEO Sundar Pichai said: “YouTube continues to be the leader in streaming watchtime and podcasts” - which many say is the first time podcasts have been mentioned in Google’s financial results. YouTube ads grew 13% to $10.4bn for the quarter (which included the US election).
