Data: podcasting and the UAE

• Marketiers and 4DC have released the first part of a report into podcasting and the UAE. 16% of the adult population of the United Arab Emirates are weekly podcast listeners, the data suggests. The full data is released later this month.

• Podcast app Castbox has launched Livecast, a free audio streaming service that lets podcasters go live with the tap of a button. Podnews went live on this service a month or so ago, and it worked well as a method of hearing from listeners.

• Spotify have released their first quarter 2019 earnings results, and a fancy infographic. Revenue is up 31% year-on-year. Of note from the report:

  Our podcast audience grew 50% quarter-on-quarter and has nearly doubled since the start of the year … We are seeing increased demand for podcast advertising … Over time, our ambition is to reinvent the podcasting ad experience by building a new tech stack to enable targeting, measurement, and reporting capabilities like we have for our core Ad-Supported offering.

• Data: Nielsen reports that podcasting is growing in Canada, with 33% of Canadians saying they’re listening to more podcast content than they did a year ago. “39% of teens say they spend less time listening to music because of their podcast consumption”.

• UK podcast agency 4DC has signed a partnership with Fresh Air Productions to expand their podcast offer.

• TuneIn has a new CEO, Juliette Morris, who was previously the company’s CMO.

• Podcast host and streaming company StreamGuys have announced a comprehensive API for their live stream repurposing and podcast management system, SGrecast.

• Advice: Writing for Podcast Movement, Dave Jackson reckons that you should stop using your “limited technical knowledge” as a reason to not do a podcast. Amy Woods highlights how My Dad Wrote A … has repurposes the hell out of their content - content that, in the beginning, was repurposed anyway.

• There are now more than 731,000 podcasts in Apple Podcasts, says My Podcast Reviews.
