True crime shows, filtered

• Want to find a true crime podcast episode featuring a death on a subway train in the US? Or one in the wilderness where the murder weapon was a USB cord? Pods 4 Us is a new podcast discovery app with detailed filtering options for true crime and book podcasts. More categories are on the way, we’re told.

• The Triton Digital Australian Podcast Ranker has been released for May. There are no changes in the top 5; the top 200 in May saw downloads increase by 3.9%, while listeners increased by 1.6%.

• Libsyn stats for May show another new low for Apple Podcasts, and another new high for Spotify. The iOS/Android ratio is also at a new low. Google Podcasts slipped to 7th place; it closes internationally this Sunday.

  • We should have known better: we suggested yesterday that Libsyn might be the only podcast hosting company that both supports video podcasts and can automatically upload those videos to YouTube. Of course, Castos also offers this feature.

• Technorama, a technologists group for the Australian community media sector, held a virtual event this week on proper acoustics for studios. You can watch it back here - including managing reflections, soundproofing, and layouts.

• The Daily Mail is said to have more than 20 video shows in development.

• Who are the most influential podcasters right now? Vulture’s Nick Quah puts together a list.

• Everyone’s building media businesses, says Blue Wire’s Kevin Jones, in an interview in sports media website Awful Announcing. Jones highlights that the network doesn’t aggressively cross-promote: “We think podcast listeners and consumers are really smart people and they’re going to pick what they like.”

Take it or Leave it has joined Adalyst’s slate - joining other shows aimed at female and mom audiences. The show was launched in 2018, and is “an advice-ish podcast for parents” co-hosted by Meredith Masony and Tiffany Jenkins, who together have over 11 million followers across social media.
