  • Podcast app and service RadioPublic announces a new group of investors and advisors, led by Boston MA, US broadcaster WGBH.   • New Hampshire Public Radio publishes a “ten minute writer’s workshop” with the co-creators of Welcome to Nightvale.

  • The Deccan Herald from Bangalore, India, publishes a piece about podcasting. This is the first content from India I’ve seen about the medium.

  • iHeartMedia launches an app on Comcast cable set-top boxes. Content includes live streaming radio stations, music channels, and podcasts. (Listening to audio on the TV accounts for 5% of all radio listening in the UK, so it’s an interesting market. In other news, the iOS app has been updated to give access to podcasts while using Apple CarPlay.

  • The Netherlands: a set of podcasts and an opinion piece from Elger van der Wel about the state of podcasting in the country. In Dutch.

  • Belgium: an article all about podcasting in Belgium, summed-up best by its headline: Podcasts: a new journalistic medium, attracting people, building a reputation, maybe earning something.

  • South Africa: “Podcasting not profitable yet, but a powerful medium”. Quality is seen as an issue: “Good podcasts will chase away bad podcasts, but the fear of course is that bad podcasts will just tank the whole industry.”

  • The Columbia Journalism Review reports on a speech made by Ira Glass at the Third Coast Festival. Additionally, the festival’s website contains podcasts and audio from all over.

  • The Houston Press lays into the Apple Podcasts app. “Somewhere in a nice office there are people paid to make an iOS podcast app, and I’m convinced said people have never actually listened to a podcast in their life. It’s the only thing that would make the baffling decisions they’ve made for how the app handles podcasts make any sense.”
